Storage Times

Frequently Asked Questions

Food stored at 0°F (−18°C) is safe indefinitely, but quality degrades over time. The times listed are for best quality — the food may develop freezer burn or off-flavors beyond these windows, but it won't make you sick as long as it stayed frozen.
Remove as much air as possible before sealing. Use freezer-grade bags, heavy-duty foil, or airtight containers. Double-wrapping works well for meats. Label everything with the date so you use the oldest items first.
If food was thawed in the refrigerator, you can refreeze it safely, though quality may suffer. Food thawed at room temperature or in warm water should be cooked before refreezing. Never refreeze anything that's been at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
